A Fake News Video-Poetry Workshop took place on February 22, 2019, at Brooklyn College, as part of a semester long experiment in cross-disciplinary documentary pedagogy: Documentary Across the Disciplines. This session built on three weeks of previous teaching by Joseph Entin, Jessican Siegel, and Naomi Schiller (English, Journalism, and Anthropology, respectively) about histories, troubles, and practices of "documentary as advocacy," particularly in relation to NYC neighborhoods. Students came to the session with oral histories in hand and used these as words, encounters, and knowledge (from others) from which to build some new truths into poems and also videos.
